SANDOWN ROCKS!
Welcome to Sandown Rocks, we’re the only outdoor climbing wall on the Isle of Wight. The highest point on our ‘Spinnaker Wall’ is twelve meters high.
TWO WALLS
At Sandown Rocks two very different walls combine to create a unique climbing experience. You’ll boulder through the overhanging tunnel finding your feet before experiencing the thrill of the twelve meter 3D wall. 86 climbing routes from 4a to 7a+ in difficulty are set for you to conquer.

safety first
Your safety is our priority, all our instructors are fully qualified and enhanced DBS checked. Our wall is regularly inspected and approved for use by Entre-Prises the wall manufacturer. Climbing equipment is checked before and after each use by two staff members.

If you don’t have your own equipment don’t worry, we have everything you need, you’ll find helmets and harnesses to fit all sizes.

MOTOR SKILLS
Climbing is the ideal sport for children to build motor skills, balance, coordination, agility and strength.
PROBLEM SOLVING
learning to problem solve is a crucial part of a child’s development. Our qualified team will provide a safe environment and encourage confidence and independence.
SOCIALIZING
Socializing regularly with new people will teach your child how to communicate confidently with both adults and other children.
OPENING HOURS
Sandown Rocks is the Isle of Wight’s leading climbing experience. The walls are fully floodlit and can be used by groups during the following periods.

LEARN TO INSTRUCT
START YOUR CLIMBING CAREER
Sandown Rocks hosts regular training weekends culminating in a qualification to instruct on our walls. The course is £150pp and once successfully completed will allow independent access to instruct at our facility. NB: The qualification is not transferable to other walls.
Instructors with a current CWI qualification and above are welcome to access our walls without additional supervision. One instructor may belay one climber at any one time. Equipment is available.

Paul Rolinson
Technical Advisor
Paul has been an enthusiastic climber at home and abroad for 40 years. He works as an MCI qualified advisor for climbing walls throughout the UK, training and accrediting staff.
Rosco Seekings
Lead Instructor
Lead instructor and designated kit man. Rosco is committed to providing climbing opportunities for all, and to establishing Sandown Rocks within the UK climbing community.
Rod Parker
Lead Instructor
Rod is RCI qualified and an experienced lead climber. He gains great satisfaction in developing a climber’s skills.
Steve Hookey
Instructor
Steve’s favourite place to climb is the cliffs at Swanage, he also enjoys the snowy peaks across Europe. Steve has been a qualified climbing instructor for 6 years.
Ian Woodford
Instructor
Ian has been a site specific climbing instructor for a number of years. He enjoys wall climbing but his passion is trad climbing and has climbed rock faces around the world.
Ash Wicks
Instructor
Ash is an avid climber and boulderer. He is a full time paramedic and a member of the IOW coastguard team.
Connor Smith
Instructor
Connor is a sport climber and spends weekends bouldering in climbing facilities across the south of England. Connor is looking forward to meeting climbers on the Isle of Wight.
Chris Fletcher
Wall Manager
Chris heads up the Sandown Rocks facility and is committed to providing climbing opportunities for all ages and abilities.
